HPP and PSHPP Electricity Generation
NEK EAD owns 31 hydro power plants (HPPs and PSHPPs) with total installed capacities of 2737 MW. The main electricity generation is provided by fourtheen large hydro power plants grouped in four hydro power cascades: Belmeken - Sestrimo – Chaira Hydro Power Complex, Batak Cascade, Dospat-Vacha Cascade and Arda Cascade.
Electricity Trade
NEK EAD is a major player in the electricity market of Bulgaria, guaranteeing security of supplies. The Company carries out wholesale trade on the non-regulated market through the segments of Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange.
Guarantees of Origin
The renewable electricity production places NEK EAD among the leaders by number of acquired Guarantees of Origin (GOs) from the green energy output. Their acquisition stimulates production of green energy and contributes to the environmental protection.
Special Balancing Group
NEK EAD is one of the main providers of balancing energy in the country. As coordinator of special balancing groups NEK calculates the imbalances of each member of the balancing group.
Public Electricity Supplier
Pursuant to the Public Power Supply Licence No. L-147-13/17.12.2004, supplemented with the function of a coordinator of special balancing group, NEK EAD operates on the wholesale electricity market.
Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR)
NEK as SoLR has the obligation to supply electricity to final customers connected to the transmission grid system if such customers have not switched to another electricity trader or the chosen trader fails to deliver for reasons beyond the customer.
Holiday homes
NEK’s holiday homes are available for recreation, trainings and conferences all year around.
